As the director of teachers today and currently working in schools, here is my advice and guidance for supply teachers going into schools post Covid-19 (Its still around to be honest)
Top tips
- Still be wary, its important to keep your distance when possible, both for students and staff
- Get to the school early and familiarise yourself with the surroundings
- Keep your distance when you can and ventilate the room.
- If you need to talk to a student be behind them so you are not facing them directly
- Ensure students are spaced out where you can (If you have space in the class)
- Ensure you wash your hands and take hand sanitiser with you
- Find out the school Covid-19 policy before entering the school (it will be on there website)
- Speak to your agency if you are unsure or worried
- If in a long term contract find out from the agency if you will be paid if you contract Covid-19. Is there online learning you can set to be paid? Ensure you get something in writing from the agency and the school before you take a position.
- If schools close because of the pandemic, will you be paid if in a long term contract? Will you be expected to set on line learning. Check with your agency and the school, ensure you have something in writing clarifying the expectation.
I am sure I may have missed some of the other points but for me these are key as a supply teacher entering schools for the first time or those in a long term contract.
